Deja Vu

This in reference to the article of Nasim Zehra(KT, Feb 03). She has successfully analysed the political situation in her recent article. Suprisingly, at the start of every century, a new superpower emerges. Europeans were in the the 1800's and the Americans are since the 1900's . Americans were involved in a Cold War with the Russians for decades for the title of superpower, eventually, they succeeded in gaining the title of 'superpower'.
From the start of this century, China and India are moving at a steadily to overthrow the Americans from their throne. Such powerful neighbours for Pakistan can be fatally dangerous on a national level and economically. As Nasim Zehra pointed out, the strongest institution in Pakistan - the army - has to distance itself from the political field and concentrate more on the battlefield. Gen. Kayani's recent suggesstions to the army to stay away from politics is indeed very suprising. Hopefully, army stops influencing politics and other institutions and let the civilians carry out development in the country.
As Musharaf's upopularity levels have reached new lows, it would not be a surprising if he hands over the charge to Kayani and quit politics. If this comes into reality, are Pakistanis ready for deja vu ?
