IDP Diary - Day 3 - Some shocks, people & curfews

For many, the routine life is boring, for me, Alhamdulilah, the routine life is always interesting. Oh, by the way, I have just observed an amazing thing out here in Mardan. The mosquitoes here are completely different from the ones in Islamabad and Punjab (I have no idea about the ones in Sindh and Balochistan). They don't buzz around your ears and they are so tiny that I haven't seen one up till now. So, this sounds good, eh?

NO, IT DOESN'T.

They bite non-stop !! The ones back home, bite and then they go for a ride and come back. But here in Mardan the situation is horrible. They keep on biting and biting just like the bunny from the 'Duracell' ad which never stops moving like a duck. Phew! I am cursing myself for buying a cheap duplicate of Mospel which the local shopkeeper suggested me. MOSPEL, come to my rescue!

When, I shifted to Pakistan last year, I used to get amazed when I used to see 10 people commuting on the Suzuki pickup. I used to imagine how the people manage it. But, I learned it anyways, because I also commute on it daily, so I know its piece of cake. But, yes there is always a but when I say something, Mardan completely shocked me. You want to know why?

Please see the above picture and know why.

Late in the night, I was sitting with a friend and he shared an amusing story about an Imam of a mosque at Sher-garh Market in District Mardan, 2 kms away from Malakand Agency. The Imam of the mosque was a very well-respected person of the community. One day, some army-men came in and told him to open the door of a room in the mosque. The Imam said he does not have the keys for it. One of the army-men punched him hard which made the people of the mosque angry. Surely, anyone would get angry if you hit an Imam/old man who is leading prayers and giving sermons for the past 25 years. The army-men told the people to wait and wait for the climax. They broke the door of the room they wanted to inspect, and they found weapons and rocket launchers.

If you think that was the climax, you are so wrong. Female readers can avoid the next paragraph.

The army personnel told the Imam to pull his shalwar down, I guess they pulled it down anways. That shocked the public and I am sure it would have caused a lot of stress to the followers of this Imam. The Imam did not got his organ circumcised, He was actually a Hindu! I guess they arrested him for sure, but they took him for a round in the Sher garh Market on foot and naked before. I wish the story is true because I hate reporting false incidents. The incident happened on 8Th of May. If someone can get it confirmed, I would be really happy!

Coming back to work, I just had to distribute tokens to families so that they could come and collect their food rations tomorrow. But, the end of the day was very heart-breaking, it took me quite a while to get back to normalcy. I met two cute little boys who were suffering from thalassemia. I guess they are 6 or 7 year olds. I have heard from Atta Bhai, a close aide who resides in the village Spilno-dehrai, that yesterday the boys were suffering of bleeding from the nose. In Swat, their parents had the privilege of getting their treatment/transfusion for gratis, but that has vanished for them as their livelihood has. One of them has gone dark but other was jumping around today when I told his father to call him as I wanted to meet him. The boys were supposed to get the blood transfusion done on 20Th May, and are supposed to get it every month to survive. They got displaced before that, therefore they missed the dates.

If that was not sad enough, I heard that one family were moving out of Swat to enter into Mardan. All of a sudden, they were attacked by a military helicopter, father and son got shot. Father survived son must be in the heavens INSHALLAH. The son was supposedly 6 year old.

But, I guess military was doing their duty I guess, there was a curfew placed in the area, its not their fault, bullets don't have feelings and the finger on the trigger is always numb.

Hmph...anyways, I was preparing to leave the village with a heart full of sorrow, when I heard the way to get out of the village, which is through the Sher-garh Market, was on curfew because the army was crossing into the Malakand Agency. This has happened twice with me in 4 days that I got stuck in the village due to curfew. But there is a another route to get out safely, so I was safe.

But I am not sure if my brothers and sisters living there are safe. I am worried O Allah, please bring peace back, please...

IDP Diary - Day 2 - Heat, Traffic, and a Sand Storm.

Well, it was quite a tough day today. If you don't believe me than read this:

Forecast for Wednesday Mardan, Pakistan
There is a 0% chance of precipitation. Sunny. Extremely hot. Temperature of 37°C. Winds NE 28km. Humidity will be 37% with a dewpoint of 20° and feels-like temperature of 41°C.

Found this on a local news site and believe me every word of it is true. I met a fellow a couple of weeks back who is not the weather man, but he did an interesting research. According to his research, the temperature inside a tent is 8°C higher than what it is outside. Come to think of it, we get off from work if the temperature reaches 50°C even if we are sitting inside air-conditioned rooms, for the displaced people living in the tents it has become a daily ritual, it has become their job to survive this heat if they want to survive. I wish they don't lose patience because Pukhtoons are difficult to control, and there are no qualms about it!

Well, the heat caused me to sweat, naturally. But, the traffic and the sand storm later in the day just made the matters worse and dirtier. It took me an hour to cross a 3 km track! I am sure when I go for a bath, I need a "Scotch Brite" to scrub the three enemies off my body - the dirt, smoke and the sand - I had to combat with. I am surviving so I won, but the blood of my enemies are still all over me, but its all over, at least for the day.

Today, I went to the field to take a survey on the condition of schools inside the camp and to collect some figures. Interestingly, the attendence rate is 70 %, a remarkable achievement because of two reasons:-

1. Who studies in summers?
Summers are to relax, but these kids are different, they enjoy studying. Moreover, there are almost equal number of girls & boys in a school, so those who think that the people of Malakand don't like to give their girls education are living in error and need to get their heads examined ASAP!

2. Its the weather again, they study in tent schools. I cannot survive in it for a minute and they study for hours in it. We have got some young super heroes in these camps, I guess we start making some good movies on these kids rather than on "naughty gujjars" and on "fat aunties dancing" who destroy alot of crop. Sometimes, I think they are responsible for all this food shortage...LETS STOP "THE DANCING AUNTIES" from dancing or I would rather say from thumping!

Anyways, I have got some really amusing news. Mir Khalil ur Rahman Foundation (a sister concern of Geo News) is arrange a mass wedding at the Jalala Camp in Mardan. 12 couples would get married on Friday, June 12th. They have arranged separate tents, mattresses and kitchen utensils for the newly-weds. If someone wants to attend the wedding, please let me know because one would not be allowed without a security pass. I am sick and tired of security checks by the way. But that doesn't imply we shouldn't help the authorities in performing their duty.

On the lighter note, for me the fun begins these days, when I take out my camera because either I am surrounded with kids immediately or hear shouts from the ones far to take their pictures. I say, some of them are really nice posers...the photo above says it all...

You decide! I love these kids anyways....

IDP Diary - Day 1

Actually its not Day 1, its 30 days now since I began my journey to facilitate the IDPs on behalf of the organization I work and donors who support us...

Anyways, I decided yesterday that I would update everyone by sharing interesting stories from Mardan and Swabi, where most of the displaced people are shifting, and all the places I visit to.

So, without wasting more time, start reading this:

Yesterday, I went to Spilno-Dehray, UC Makori in District Mardan. The place is 1-2 km away from Malakand Agency and around 60-70 kms away from the war zone. The organization I work in, Human Relief Foundation has selected this site to support the IDP families who have shifted there. My job of the day was to take a survey to assess the sanitation, health and water conditions. To my horror, the situation turned out to be more horrific than I had thought of. Most of the people did not have access to toilets and are forced to excrete their wastes in open, they are not used to this ritual as back home they had a toilet system which was well connected with sewage system. Moreover, they used to have seperate bathrooms, now they have to use the toilet for the same purpose. Ladies wait for their turns till it turns dark, to preserve their honor.
Surprisingly, the water condition is not as bad. The quality of the water is acceptable, and the only thing they require is storage tanks.

Well, lets come to the most interesting part, we left the village to head towards the Mardan city and guess what happened?

We got stuck in the area because the army/police put a curfew near the Shergarh Market! (the Shergarh Market, a market has a 600 year history and comes in between Spilno-Dehray and Mardan city)

But, I was lucky as I was with the company of some smart Pushtoons who knew another way. I wish the smart people working to displace people dont find out this place to create more unrest...

For everyone's information, the curfew has become a daily ritual and everyday people get shot down for violating it, some die, some survive...

They are the enemies of Pakistan...They!

The fight in SWAT is the most depressing episode in the history of Pakistan, or at least the one I am witnessing in my life span. Pakistan is once again being used by separatists to fulfill their agenda – agenda which is never Islamic and always pro-self-government. It seems some people are really benefiting by creating rift between us. But who are these people?

If you ask this question to a liberal Pakistani, he would say it’s the Taliban because they want to execute their radical ideology of Islam. Proof – find it yourself by asking anyone belonging to the MQM. If you go to a Pakistani who is confused about Islam and gets his information from the internet, he would say that it is the Jews, the American or the Free Masons. Proof – put this subject on the facebook.com site and you would know. Now, if you go to an elderly person who experienced independence from India or any cricket fanatic, he would say: "It’s the Indians". And they would attest it because every Tom, Dick and Harry knows how Bangladesh was created. But then, if you ask this query from a practicing Pakistani Muslim or ones who always criticize and take out rallies against the incumbent folks at the helm of affairs, they will accuse the government of Pakistan and directly/indirectly praise the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The last set also says often the following statement: "The crime rate was zero in SWAT before Pakistan changed its policy regarding Afghanistan and stopped stopping the Americans from conducting drone attacks".
So, before this war on terror we had a problem of traditions. Like, there were people going round calling themselves Punjabis, Seraikis, Sindhis, Hindcos, Pashtuns, Chitrali and Balochis whenever a foreigner questioned about their nationality. This was a huge problem because one should call himself Pakistani when someone asks them from where they belong. Well, if that was not serious, now we have a problem because we are a nation who has a split opinion about a crisis which is threatening our way of life.

Back to the question, and I haven’t found the answer yet because of the gash in opinion. Some call them militants and some call them friends or protectors of Islam. While, some long marchers and Muslim brothers accuse the government because of its bad record – Sarah Palin, the judges' fiasco, load-shedding, food crisis, pending legislation on the 17th Amendment, a, b, c, d and f. And yes e too.

To find the answer to such a tricky question, one needs to study about both the parties involved in the conflict – Pakistani Government and the militants. Let's start with the Pakistani Government first. The Pakistani Government does not have a clean record and anyone can vouch for that, be it the last establishment or the current one.I believe most of the blame goes to Musharraf because during his era, the policy was changed regarding Afghanistan which led to the eventual change of policy in the Tribal Areas also. Most of the folks know that the folks in tribal areas used to rule their areas according their own principles and everything was hale and hearty (I remember SWAT as a land of peace when I visited it 8 years back). But, when US started its drone attacks in WANA and Waziristan, the Pakistani government broke the covenant with the tribal chiefs and employed their rule instead of firing down the drones. But, the current government should be blamed more than the previous because it has failed to clear the mess created by the anarchist regime of Mr. Musharraf.

Moreover, they are employing the same methods used by Musharraf to curtail this dilemma i.e. by the use of force. He failed, the US failed (and are failing since the Vietnam War), and therefore Zardari cannot bring peace through the use of weapons or through this way. Another aspect which goes against the government is that they have just received some crispy green notes from the Obama administration which makes most of the Pakistani think that our leaders have sold themselves yet again. So, one thing is sure now, we cannot believe the government 100 % (though I appreciate the way they have cut down the load-shedding in the capital, hope I did not say this too early).

Lets analyze the second party - militants a.k.a. Talibans a.k.a. Indian agents a.k.a. Protectors of Islam. First thing first, we can agree that they are militants because they are rebellious and revolutionary at the same time but the opposition can call the army that too. So, we move ahead and see if they are actually Talibans. Well, I believe that they are not simply because the Taliban should be using it full resource to fight the Americans out of the country which they ruled before, why bother with a country where millions support them anyways. In addition, it is difficult for me to digest that the Talibans have actually inaugurated a Pakistani branch. This is insane if it is true because it is strategically and logically not possible because they are bombed and attacked daily in Afghanistan which leaves them no time and resource to think elsewhere. Plus, the history tells that when Pakhtuns fight, they fight like undaunted warriors who don’t go around covering their face to hide their identities. Proof – the war of AJK in the late 40's, the Kargil War and the war with the Russians in the 80's. Maybe the reason they hide their faces is that they don’t belong to this country. Maybe.

So if they are not Taliban, then they must be Indian and/or foreign agents. That's a possibility too. Think Tanks and ex military men/strategists are suggesting that these fighters are a mix of foreign agents and local people of the region who are serving the agenda of the Indians, Israelis, Americans, Russians and/or the Free Masons. But if you observe, the above five have the same ideology. They want a secular world, they want their own state and exterminate threats to their beliefs, they believe in a centralized way of governance(that goes for the Americans too, their foreign policy for the past six decades prove this fact that they are as communist as the Russians), and that they want to implement their New World Order. So if this assumption is true then these people are surely not the Protectors of Islam.

But, if they really are the true Muslims and protectors of our religion then: why do they hide their identities and how can they kill their own Muslim brothers working for the Pakistan Army. Indeed, this is very strange. Moreover, if they are true Muslims and are in opposition to the people who are against Islam then why are they using their energies to fight with a Muslim country, why don’t they kill some whites at NATO, British and Americans in Afghanistan?

I know my knowledge is very limited, but I am sure Islam does not tell Muslims to kill their brothers who say the Shahadah, pray, fast in Ramadan, pay Zakat, perform Hajj and have the same six beliefs which they have. Moreover, mostly, I hear bizarre things from Muslim Khan, the official spokesperson of Tehrik-e-Taliban. Like, he recently said that weapon is actually a jewelry item for Muslims i.e. he is trying to imply that Muslims should do this form of Jihad as often as they dress and undress. But, why has his group ignored the Greater Jihad, which is fighting with the demons inside, and why do they prefer the lesser Jihad more? Why don’t they create a practical educational and awareness system which will help them to achieve their aim in Muslim Countries? All of a sudden, the history of the Battle of Badr has come into my mind which has actually helped me to say assertively that both the parties are not upholding the rule of warfare because they are fighting by not protecting the civilians. On one side the army men are firing ammunition from miles away or from the air, while the militants are using people as human shields i.e. by keeping their strongholds where civilians live. In short, they are killing more civilians then each other.

So, as far as I can conclude, I just cannot believe both the parties involved in this conflict. The reasons are simple: they hide their agendas, swathe their identities, take money and obey the orders of those who have beliefs opposite to the religion and culture practiced in Pakistan. Both are the enemies of the country which was made for the Muslims of the Sub Continent, indubitably.
I think I have unraveled the secret. I know who the real enemy is. See, Pakistan is a Muslim country where strong people live (if we were not strong our neighbors would have gulped us down by now, we exist that signifies we are one of strongest Creation of the Lord) and, luckily, we have got nuclear arsenal too. So, the enemies first sowed the seeds of pro-self-rule feelings to break this country and after more than 3 decades they are using Islam to make this nation weaker. Therefore, the enemy is the one who is selling weapons to create rift between the Muslims so that they kill each other, which will make way for them to implement their evil beliefs and satanic ideologies. Certainly, the answer is non Muslims – Indians, Israelis, Russians, Americans and the Free Masons.

The solution to avoid this depressing episode to become a catastrophe is that each and everyone should investigate the truth, surely Allah help those who try. As well as by demanding explanation from the people who are on our payrolls, are the only ways to clear the illusion we live in or forced to abide in.

Americans---"We dont want your evil money"

The United States of America wants to facilitate us again and this time with a $ 1.5 billion economic aid package. One thing is definite, this $ 1.5 billion would not be spent to curb the socio-economic crises because of two reasons: we have corrupt leaders and Americans give money with strings attached – strings which usually tells our leaders to sell their beliefs and the beliefs on which Pakistan was formed on.
I agree we, in Pakistan, have poverty, illiteracy and terrorism and need money to fight it. I also agree that you people, the Americans, have ghettos too, people who don't and cant understand (with the high level of education) and that you people are busy terrorizing those who have beliefs contrary to yours - if the Americans can have their four freedoms, why cant we?

Surely, in the question lies the answer, we can have our freedoms (beliefs) and that is more important to succeed than money.

Moreover, I agree and understand that you, the Americans, have a financial crisis and I agree that it is because your leaders disregard the constitution which says that the currency should be on par with the gold and silver reserves, where instead its foundation is made on interest and the figures & values which come into the heads of the folks working at the Federal Reserve System. So Barrack Hussein Obama, please use $ 1.5 billion at home instead of giving it to us, we don’t want your money!

And one more thing, Mr. Obama, please clear the mess at your home first and once you have done that stop worrying about us, we will manage ourselves well without you, your aid and your American dream.

Action speaks LOUDER than words..

After the success of Long March, the serving leaders in myriad of ministries would have apprehended that the seats they yearn for before the elections are really blistering instead of being comfortable. That goes for our government officials and the honorable Chief Justice also. Everyone has innumerable tasks to deal with, and the paramount part is that the general public is keeping an ogle on their activities consistently, thanks to media.

Presently, the government has to liaise with the SWAT situation and socio/economic crises, the opposition needs to give invaluable advice and exercise their power to help the public. Moreover, the judiciary has an important task: to provide justice to those who have been treated unjustly due to illegal and unconstitutional measures. Additionally, all of them are answerable to the public now, very contrasting to the situation a couple of months back. A revolution of fair accountability has arrived and the leaders have succumbed by genuflecting. For example, the judiciary crisis recently solved saw the President, Prime Minister and the ruling party, accepting the reinstating of Chaudary Ifthikar and his colleagues by surrendering, even though unwillingly.

Hence, the people are looking at their leaders, political and that in judiciary, because they 'think' that they are the catalyst to provide and maintain peace. Yes, people have started to 'think' and that makes the government nervous and should make the judiciary too. There is no place for injustice to make its home in Pakistan, and if it does then a finale Long March is on the cards to get rid of indolent political leaders and judges.

Pakistan : Haven for Failed Governments

For the past two decades, Pakistan is going through a famine where it is powerless to find an excellent government or fine system of governance. From Ghulam Ishaq Khan to Farooq Leghari, and then from Musharraf to Zardari, the same cassette is being played again and again. Either it is Presidential monarchy or military dictatorship. Surely, the mystification lies in our system of governance i.e. President-Prime Minister-Parliament.

If the above system of governance is a letdown, which it surely is, then it is high time that we should revolutionize this system. Until and unless this quandary is not solved, our adventurers, politicians and leaders, will carry on their adventurism to attain absolute power. As absolute power corrupts, therefore, presidential or military dictatorship is highly not suggested. Hence, our parliamentary leaders have to score through the post of Prime Minister i.e. the president would be in charge of the helm of affairs of the country. He would be answerable to the parliament - people of Pakistan – which is currently the task of the Prime Minister. Additionally, the alternative solution is to curb the power of the President so that he does not overpower the sentiments of the public.

Due to this catch-22, Pakistan has suffered immensely, monetarily and in a social context. Moreover, to bring solidity to our governance system, the creams of the crop have to close their ears to the American dictation because it's leading to turbulence and degeneration in our society. Shockingly, it is surely a phenomenon that Pakistan is still extant because our situation is worse than Iraq and Afghanistan presently. We have a high fiscal debt, we are getting no financial support from friends, we have a civil war, we don’t know when the person standing next to us will blow off and political discrimination has reached its maximum peak.

Sadly, the current government has been incapable to clear the chaos in the house. But that does not mean they don’t deserve to complete their term. The people of Pakistan have given them the say-so therefore they have to be serene to get the most wanted results. But, mid-term elections should definitely take place if the masses come to the roads because it is one of the best forms of bringing a revolution, though it surely is highly unasked for because it can cause a loss in human lives due to the suicidal tendencies of the bombers present in our realm. All eyes are on the month of March, because we are moving towards an unconventional sort of referendum which will decide the upshot of the serving government.

I, personally, am praying for a mid-term election because I believe that our highly salaried ministers and President should have solved the impasse of judiciary and the complaints of the lawyers' community in their first year of power. We have elected the wrong leaders once again and we can definitely not afford another mistake otherwise it would be fatal this time. A good plan today is better than perfect plans tomorrow i.e. respect time and time would respect you which will take you to glory!

Respect Time...and time will respect you!

People who don’t care about time, time do not care about them. Sadly, it is going to be two years, since Chaudary Ifthikar was criminally removed from his administrative center. Surprisingly, he fought against the odds with the help of Chaudary Aitzaz Ahsan and got re-instated. But, another illegal move from the oppressor of people's determination detached him from the helm of affairs.

Fast-forward from November 2 2007, the incumbent leaders of today won the elections by chanting the slogan – "Chaudary Ifthikar is our chief justice!" - Today they have forgotten their pledge and brought ignominy to the dead soul of the Late Benazir Bhutto who also supported him. Interestingly, his foes, friends before, have raison d'être for not reinstating him. Some say, he is too biased to be a judge while some have gone so low integrity-wise that they pronounce – "We cannot remove Dogar because he is also a Chief Justice now". The point is that if the actions of November 2 were illegitimate than any selection according to it is also illegitimate. This can be identified by a child in a crèche then why cannot our leaders comprehend this?

According to my knowledge about the Pakistani headship, I can easily say that our political forces exchange blows for those causes in which they have personal gains and vice versa. From Zardari to Nawaz Sharif or Qazi Hussain Ahmad to Imran Khan, all are skirmishing for their personal/political gains. But in our system which is so shady and deceitful, it's better to support those who favor the desires of a larger community, even if they are doing it for their own promotion.

Leaders in office who think Chaudary Ifthikar is a political figure need to get their heads examined because, fortunately for him, he has not passed a political testimonial and has remained tight lipped about the political affairs. If a political party/parties support him that does not entail that he has become a political figure. As a matter of fact, political parties get their support from the masses and they are the best representation of the general public. So, if a segment of people does support him, then what’s wrong in it?

Importantly, it should be remembered that Chaudary Ifthikar is not as white as milk or an angel, many or most of the populace know about it. He rose to command during Musharraf's regime, took oath on PCO and did not address against him for a stretched era. Was it the Steel Mill's case or an individual squabble, I don’t know. But, most of the people support him because he has been the first government official who did not bow his head according to the wishes of a martial despot. It was because of the lawyer's movement that Musharraf had to completely resign and Zardari should be extremely thankful for it. Moreover, no one deserves to be kicked out of work like this, be it Chaudary Ifthikar or a clerk. In fact, after his re-instating, expectations of the general public would be high from him i.e. if he supports the unruly then surely you will see another movement, and this time against him. But today, his supporters are still singing the mantra to get him reinstated though at the moment it's falling on deaf ears.

It is going to be two years soon, and nothing fruitful has shaped up till now. Forlornly, Musharraf is enjoying a content lifestyle, giving lectures at Stanford, where instead he should have been in jail at this instant with the present president. This is the quirk of fate of Pakistan – "Chor gaye aur luteray agaye!" – Thieves are gone and dacoits have come to loot 'n' rule.

I deduce and desire that Zardari completes his term or stays a little longer because the public of this country will only then find out how to vote when they are pushed to the edge of the knoll. Respect time and time will respect you; take judgments prompt, because justice delayed is justice denied, otherwise all and sundry might go down the hill, and it will surely hurt if it doesn’t slay.

Leadership in Crisis

There are fissures in the foundations of Pakistan which is due to the severe scarcity of superior leaders in our political and nonspecific arena. Since the departure of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Liaqut Ali Khan, the situation has gone haywire in our realm. From Ayub to Zardari, the status quo of this dearth is escalating extraordinarily. This deficiency has raised the level of fretfulness in the general public to unknown heights which is so severe for the social order that from a tea stall to gelato affair or from a ghetto to a bastion, there is just one question on everyone's mind i.e." when will good leaders arrive?"

Such a situation is so wrong because nations that wait for heroes to save them are the unluckiest – only struggle creates heroes not luck because luck is always with those who don’t include it in their plans, read history if you don’t believe it. Once on this topic, one wise man shared his wisdom on this dilemma with me once. He explained that lack of education is the raison d'être behind the lack of leadership. Therefore, he had a simple modus operandi for its solution i.e. to provide quality education to children, especially to females, so that when these little girls turn into mothers, they give birth to revolutionaries. For a moment, I wanted to jump on the couch to celebrate the elucidation he provided. But then, I came back to veracity and thought that this will take decades.

It disturbed me for a little while. However, the astute chap saw the depressed look on my face and suggested "Brother, carry on your struggle for it because that’s the only thing you have control over and leave the results to The One who controls the cosmos". STOP. These words should be enough for anyone to realize that nothing is impossible if one struggles for it with honesty, integrity and commitment. For instance, look at Iqbal and Jinnah. Interestingly and gladly, his formula to success and peace is simple and achievable; one just has to believe in it.

All we have to do is to do our bit to make the society a better place to live in and through this by default we will achieve the beloved domino effect. Sadly, I see most of the populace waste their times in activities which are unproductive with zero output, in fact, it sucks up the resources. Hence, this is the time to act and start the restoration phase and let's stamp out the word "inefficient" before the word "leadership" because crisis creates motivation and we have a bag full of crises at the moment.

This is the best PPP can BOAST OFF !

I am speculating on the progress report the sitting government will present in front of the public on the eve of their 1st year in power. I deduce it will look like this:-

Dear All,
The People of Pakistan, I will initiate this report by saying the sacred words – BB Zinda Hai! Likewise, I am not going to start with the Islamic greeting of "Assalamalaikum" because Pakistan is conquering new heights of modernization and we cannot stall it by using the lingo used by our enemies. As a matter of fact, Our President has opened new horizons of modernization and flirt for the Pakistani men to shake hands with ladies indecently as long as they yearn anywhere and everywhere.

In the coming year, addition in indirect taxation, addition in OGDC's profit, and several more steps will be taken to ensure that the supplication, "Long Live the Bhuttos", become a certainty because the Bhuttos wont be able to last long without your constant financial support. Therefore, Mr. President is deciding to take concrete steps in this regard and planning to issue a 10% Bhutto tax on anything that can be sold.
.
Coming back to the agenda, it's my pleasure to announce the progress report which will highlight our achievements only for the year 2008-2009, as we are not capable for making failures. Firstly and fore mostly, BB Zinda Hai! Therefore, we do not need to bring the culprits to the court as the opposition is demanding. Their demand is bizarre, but as they are Pakistani citizens we have decided to assist them with a psychiatrist on gratis. Furthermore, we are also not wasting the time of our respectable courts because they have better things to do such as the Sharif Brothers eligibility case.

Secondly, the current government is pleased to announce that it has increased the employment rate in the country. Unquestionably, you would have heard through the media that we have re-instated all those government employees with full benefits who had lost their jobs after Benazir Bhutto lost power in the 1990's. Moreover, we are against the hypothesis that people should be taught to catch the fish rather than to serve them in plates. Therefore, the government has taken concrete steps by launching the Benazir Income Support Plan where poor ladies are eligible to receive Rs. 1000 per month. This scheme is NOT ACCOUNTABLE as we have bought the National Accountability through NRO.

Thirdly, through the efforts of the current government, petrol prices have come down all over the world. The world should be thankful to the Bhuttos for that, the next step is to deliberate on bringing the petrol prices low in our country too. We know people are demanding the petrol should be cheaper because in the international market the rate is below $ 30/barrel. The reason for the delay in taking decision is that we don’t believe in the old theory that a good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. Honestly speaking, as we always do, we have reached at a very confusing stage. As gas prices and petrol prices are already too near that it is causing inconvenience. The only solution is to reduce OGDC'S profit but that will make things worse because Mr. Shaukat Tarin won't be able to pay IMF then and it will put the core agenda of the nation -i.e. the Bhuttos should live long- to a precarious point.

Fourthly and importantly, we have decided to be friends with our enemies as we are sociable people. Therefore, we have decided not to take Musharraf to court for abductions and torture of “Missing People”, sabotaging the democratic process and rule of law, and for internal military violence. MQM is also not going to be taken to court for the May 12 2008 massacre and for those cases also where they killed our several members. Moreover, although BB said that Chaudary Iftthikar is her Chief Justice, but as democracy prevails in this country now, we decide not to re instate him as the majority in power don’t want him because he has the tendency to snatch our personal souvenir which we received from Mr. Musharraf – NRO. We believe The Honourable Judge, Mr. Dogar, is the best person for this job.

Fifthly and lastly, there is no inflation and the energy crisis is not such that media should cry about it. Media is playing a negative role, but we will not put curbs on it because we believe in free media. Therefore, load shedding will continue at all times, even when the best current affairs shows are on air, we believe "in equality".

People of Pakistan, we know you appreciate our work and will remain to vow silent even if you get to the point where you will drown in your homes. We thank you immensely for this gesture and commitment towards our cause of making Bhuttos live longer. Jiye Bhutto!

Regards,
PPP Jiyala,
Minister for Progress Reports and Bhutto Livelihood Scheme

US troops carry out search operation in NWA

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

By Mushtaq Yusufzai

PESHAWAR: Two US choppers, carrying American troops, reportedly intruded into the Pakistani tribal territory and landed at the Bange Dar village of North Waziristan Agency (NWA), bordering the Khost province in Afghanistan, and abducted three nomads on Monday night.Separately, suspected militants killed four more alleged US spies in the Taliban-controlled North Waziristan tribal region on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Tribal sources told The News that two US choppers landed at the Bange Dar village. The soldiers carried out a brief search operation in the village and detained three nomads and took them along to the neighbouring country. The sources informed this correspondent from Miramshah, headquarters of NWA, by telephone that the US choppers landed at the border near Ghulam Khan area and searched the small village for suspected Taliban militants.Quoting residents of Bange Dar village, the sources said after failing to find out any militants in the village, the US troops later held three ‘innocent’ men on suspicion of having links with Taliban militants involved in attacks on the US and Nato forces across the border. However, senior government officials as well as security authorities based in Miramshah denied violation of Pakistan’s airspace by the coalition forces.
“We have our troops deployed along the border with Afghanistan but none of them reported any such violation by the foreign forces,” a military officer told this scribe but wished not to be named. The government officials said the incident might have happened across the border in Afghanistan as the Afghan nomads had set up small-tented villages inside Afghan territory.

When reached by telephone, Maj-Gen Athar Abbas, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), denied reports about violation of Pakistan’s airspace by the US choppers.“No, I don’t have any kind of such report. I am in touch with senior military officials but none of them talked about this issue, which I am sure would not have taken place,” explained Maj-Gen Abbas.Meanwhile, suspected militants in North Waziristan killed four more alleged US spies and threw their bodies on main roads in various parts of the restive tribal region. Two of the alleged US spies were said to be Afghan nationals and the other two were identified as local tribesmen. The tribal sources said bullet-riddled bodies of the two Afghans were found on road in Sarobi village near Spalga.

Body of one tribesman was recovered from Miramshah Bazaar and other’s body was found from the Razmak Road. The suspected militants left hand-written letters Pashto language in which four of the slain men were accused of spying on ‘Mujahideen’ in North Waziristan for the US forces in Afghanistan.

1 year and on...PPP's Government and no sign of the killers

27/12/07
Mayhem spells its bound on the Pakistan's People's Party. The party has lost its leader and the Bhutto family has lost the last soul alive – Benazir Bhutto. The public and the media point the fingers on the enemies of democracy for this fiasco. Now, a new crisis has hit Pakistan.

28/12/07
Dust has settled down and a new cock-crow has brought hope again. Preparation for the burial of the leader has started. But, innocent loose life and material as PPP jiyalas and/or the troublemakers go on a lethal rampage.

27/12/08
As it is a national holiday now, so I decided to relax during this extended weekend. From the beginning, it was a nippy morning and at this time of the hours of darkness, 11.34 pm, its chillier than ever. In the morning, I had my breakfast and then switched on the television to see what's on. I start browsing the channels expecting some drama on the occasion of BB's First Death Anniversary. As expected, all media channels were singing mournful jingles to remember the soul which departed last year at 5.17 pm.

PTV has done a great job by spending the tax payer's money to pay homage to the Late Leader. In one of the songs, Shahida Mini with her partners sang a song which would have even made BB yawn. It would have been better if this money was spent on the Afghan refugees living behind the Sabzimandi area, in the heart of Islamabad, without electricity, in dilapidated mud houses, without basic amenities of life and without good jobs. Surely, the Master of my soul would have forgiven some sins of the Late Leader when the empty stomachs and troubled minds would have supplicated to the Forgiver to forgive the Former Prime Minister for her sins and shortcomings. Moreover, it would have been a nice political move too as such a move would have been appreciated by all. Surely, everyone would have appreciated this rather than the Shahida Mini song.

Well hours passed away, and all I could hear on TV was "BB yeh hain" or "BB who hain" and this was turning me into a maniac. Or, all I could hear was "BB ZINDA HAI","QAUM YATEEM HOGAI" and a lot more of such bizarre remarks for the dead soul and the nation. Additionally, the continuous utterance of the "Shaheed" word before or after her name was to a certain extent strenuous for my mind as it was against my belief. In simpler terms, in Islam, one who dies for the religion is called a martyr and this is what I believe. At the point of her death, she was campaigning for her election – nothing Islamic about that. Definitely, she was a champion of democracy and was fighting to restore it – nothing Islamic about it either because the democratic system is not an Islamic system of governance or at least the one she was fighting for and we are having at the moment is indisputably not a complete Islamic way of governance. So how can be she called a martyr?

The same question was raised by a very political vigorous friend of mine on the platform of facebook.com. Firstly, he mentioned the pro and cons of the Late Leader and then allowed peers to voice their opinion on the topic – Is BB a martyr?
Well, many were of the opinion that she cannot be called a martyr for Islamic reasons. Interestingly, John F. Kennedy is still remembered as an assassinated President and not a martyr, for this I raise my right hand and salute to the Americans for the first time, but I will surely hit Bush with a boot with my other hand just like the now famous Iraqi journalist.

Interestingly, to my surprise, charily and appallingly, 1 year and on, we have PPP in Government and there is no sign of the killers. Still, a single effort or step on this issue has not been taken by the incumbent leaders. In fact, Mr. Zardari said a couple of days back in Nodero that he knows who the killers are, so what is the dynamic which is holding him to say the names, he's the President, his cronies and recruits consists of top rank ministers, in short he is the most powerful man in Pakistan at the moment.

I believe the reason for not finding the culprits behind the assassination of Benazir Bhutto is same as those of Liaqut Ali Khan, John F. Kennedy, Rajiv Gandhi and General Zia ul Haq i.e. the powerful are trying to save the skin of the perpetrators who were involved in heinous crimes.

THE PREVIOUS POST - STORY FROM THE NEWS FROM SHAKEEL ANJUM - ISNT IT EASY NOW TO FIND THE KILLERS???

One year on, Benazir’s murder is still a mystery, OF COURSE NOT

By Shakeel Anjum
ISLAMABAD: The chances of charismatic former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination remaining unresolved, like other high-profile murder cases in the country’s chequered history, may appear to be high but the investigators probing the case seem to have untangled the mystery and the progress being made may still take them to some conclusive outcome.People privy to the proceedings and progress in the investigations confided to The News that unravelling of the mystery shrouding the shocking crime could lead to startling revelations, if ever made public, with serious political implications.“Some of the leads that we have obtained from the entangled evidence, both physical as well as circumstantial, guide us to certain personalities but any disclosures at this stage might cause extremely serious repercussions,” one member of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) told The News.“There is no doubt that we are in possession of highly sensitive information that our investigations have led us to and we have reason to believe that any premature exposure of this information would open up a Pandora’s Box that would be difficult to handle. We don’t want to take a bite that we may find difficult to chew at the end.“So, we have to be patient for a while before making any conclusive assertions. However, I would say that there have been stages in the course of the investigation, where we felt it was almost impossible to proceed any further,” the source told The News on condition of anonymity.Certain points have already been widely discussed in the public, and one of these is the ‘elimination’ of two very important persons whose statements would have been extremely useful for the investigators. One is the death of Ms Nahid Bhutto, a cousin of the late Benazir Bhutto, in a road accident near Hyderabad on her way to Karachi from Naudero, less than a week after the tragic assassination of the then-PPP chairperson.Insiders claim while cousin Nahid Bhutto was busy talking to somebody in Australia over telephone from the Naudero house in Larkana after the burial of Benazir Bhutto, she is believed to have touched upon something sensitive, overheard by somebody present there but without her knowledge. As soon as she realised the presence of the other person, Ms Nahid quickly wrapped up her conversation, saying she would discuss the matter on her arrival in Karachi the next day. She never arrived as intended. She was killed in a road accident near Hyderabad while going to Karachi! Who was the person present in the room from where Ms Nahid was making the phone call is an important question for the investigators. Sources claimed the suspects were too powerful to be made part of the investigations. So, there is a stumbling block being confronted by the investigators, at this point at least.A second hurdle to the probe is the assassination of Khalid Shehanshah, the personal bodyguard of Ms Bhutto and a key eyewitness to the tragedy. Circles close to Ms Bhutto insist Khalid Shehanshah, who had deep connections with the underworld, was ‘specially deputed’ as personal bodyguard of Ms Bhutto when she decided to return to the country from her prolonged self-exile on Oct 18, 2007.He stayed close to Bhutto wherever she went after her return and was always in the back of the vehicle that Ms Bhutto rode during her election campaign. It will be instructive to recall that his behaviour on the stage the day Ms Bhutto delivered her last speech at Liaquat Bagh had been questioned but the issue was tactfully hushed up.The investigators believe that he was in the know of important facts concerning the assassination of the 54-year-old leader. His murder was part of a larger scheme to silence anybody who could become a source of vital information that would help resolve the mystery shrouding the assassination.
Another very interesting aspect that surfaced during the investigations by The News was the late-night meeting of the head of an intelligence agency with Ms Bhutto. Reliable sources said the gentleman came to meet Ms Bhutto at around 1:30 am on the night of Dec 26 (early hours of Dec 27) and went straight into the meeting, also attended by Rehman Malik, then security adviser to the former premier. One source privy to the discussions claimed the spy chief categorically told Ms Bhutto not to go to Liaquat Bagh to address the rally. He said credible information had been received that there would be an assassination attempt on her life during the public meeting.“Benazir was caught in two minds for some moments but Rehman Malik forcefully refused to take that advice. He (Rehman Malik) told the gentleman: Benazir cannot sit in confinement. She is a leader and she has to address tomorrow’s rally because that is very important,” the source said. And then the intelligence boss left. When asked whether the then-ISI chief, Lt-Gen Nadeem Taj, met Benazir on the eve of the tragedy (in fact in the wee hours of Dec 27 at around 1:30 am) and told her about the threat to her life and advised her not to attend the rally, Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik, who was operating as the chief security adviser of Benazir as she was travelling all over the country in connection with her party’s election campaign, told The News that the meeting did take place. “Yes. The meeting did take place. I was part of the meeting. The discussion remained confined to political matters. The issue of any life threat to Benazir or concerns about her security during the next morning’s public rally (in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi) did not figure in the meeting,” Rehman Malik asserted.
After the rally was over and Bhutto boarded her vehicle, she asked Makhdoom Amin Fahim, who always sat on the right-hand side of the PPP chairperson, to exchange seats with her political secretary Naheed Khan. Amin Fahim obliged without uttering a word.Immediately, after taking her seat in the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser jeep provided by a very influential property developer of the country, Ms Bhutto asked Naheed Khan to contact Nawaz Sharif, as she came to know about an attack on his rally on the Islamabad Highway. Some people were reportedly killed in the assault. While Naheed Khan was dialling Sharif’s number on her cell phone, a crowd came in front of the vehicle and prevented it from moving any further.By the time Naheed Khan had almost dialled Sharif’s number and was waiting for the call to be connected on her Blackberry cell phone, Ms Bhutto placed her palm on the telephone and told her to call him later. Then she emerged from the sunroof of the jeep to wave to the cheering crowd. She had hardly started waving when the assassin fired at her at least three times. Evidently, two bullets hit her on the side of her head, slightly above temple. As she slumped back inside the vehicle and as soon as she hit the seat, a suicide bomber blew himself up. Collapsing inside the vehicle, she fell in the lap of Ms Naheed Khan, away from Makhdoom Amin Fahim, who was sitting on her left.Sources informed The News that Dr Safdar Abbasi, sitting on the backseat of the vehicle, immediately checked Bhutto’s pulse, as she lay motionless in the lap of Naheed Khan. He was horrified because there was no sign of life. He knew she had died instantly, before falling in the lap of Naheed Khan. However, to prevent panic, he told Naheed Khan to press the wound hard to prevent loss of blood. The fellow knew fully well his leader had already been dead.Another intriguing factor was the early departure of the vehicle used by Rehman Malik, Senator Babar Awan and Farhatullah Babar along with a couple of bodyguards. In the past, this vehicle had always tailed Benazir’s car, never leaving enough space that might allow another vehicle to come between them. But on that particular day, they abandoned Benazir and dashed towards Islamabad. Even when they were informed of the blast (suicide attack), Rehman Malik told the driver to keep driving towards F-8, informing the other occupants that Benazir was OK and that she was following in her vehicle. It was only after reaching the Zardari House in F-8 that Babar Awan and Farhatullah Babar came to know of the real situation and returned to the central hospital. But Rehman Malik stayed back at the Zardari House. When asked why he did not go straight to the Rawalpindi General Hospital and instead rushed towards the Zardari House in Islamabad, Rehman Malik claimed that he did go to the hospital first.“When I reached the hospital, I saw people crying. I saw Naheed Khan in the arms of another lady, crying her heart out. I could not take any more and returned to Islamabad,” Rehman Malik said.Surprisingly enough, when the numbing tragedy happened, there was no other vehicle either in front of Benazir’s jeep or behind it! The vehicle that was supposed to follow Benazir’s jeep had already abandoned her. There was no police escort in front of Benazir’s vehicle to clear the way, something that enabled the people to come in front of the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop. The driver of Benazir’s vehicle — though panic-stricken — kept his senses under control and continued to drive the badly-damaged vehicle. However, after about a kilometre’s drive, near the entrance to the Committee Chowk underpass, they found Sherry Rehman’s vehicle parked on the kerb, with only the driver behind the wheel, waiting for other occupants. They quickly shifted the injured, or by then dead, Benazir in that vehicle to the General Hospital.Meanwhile, three VVIP women of the party were seen madly running towards the Rawalpindi Press Club, carrying their sandals in hands in a bid to escape from the scene. One of them later turned up at the General Hospital, looking shocked and dazed and mourning the death of her leader.Another intriguing aspect was that the Rawalpindi police neither held any meeting to review the law and order situation nor made necessary security arrangements for the important event, which took place soon after a bomb exploded outside the venue of a public meeting addressed by Ms Bhutto in Peshawar. The police also had information regarding threats to the life of the PPP leader.Even more interesting was the fact that nobody has so far bothered to ask the senior superintendent of police (operations) as to why he was in a hurry mopping up the assassination scene, or who ordered the action while the site should have been cordoned off to facilitate the investigators looking for clues — a routine exercise after any murder, more so after such an enormous and historic killing. All said and done, last year’s slaying of the two-time prime minister remains an unsolved mystery. Although, her party leaders and security officials have been harping on their seriousness about resolving the whodunit, a UN probe into her killing is yet to be initiated. With the scene of murder hosed down in no time, one wonders what a United Nations team would accomplish after all these months of efforts to unmask the assailants.Along with Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Naheed Khan, Khalid Shehanshah was also present in the vehicle of Benazir Bhutto, assassinated right in front of Liaquat Bagh. In charge of her security, Shehanshah was one of the closest aides to Benazir Bhutto. After her murder, he was tasked with the security of Bilawal House. He also fell to the bullets of unidentified assailants on his way home from Bilawal House. What exactly he knew and why he was eliminated are the questions agitating the minds of people. Some are trying to divert attention from his killing by saying he had connections with the underworld dons, who might have orchestrated his murder. But how could the dons accomplish such a folly when Shehanshah was the security officer of the country’s most powerful person? Background interviews with knowledgeable quarters and investigation by The News reveal various mind-boggling things that followed soon after a jubilant Benazir came out of Liaquat Bagh at the conclusion of what was widely billed as a successful election rally. She was palpably overjoyed, glowing in the success of the rally. All the way to her ‘bomb-proof vehicle’, she wore a broad smile while waving to the cheering and slogan-chanting supporters. She embarked the vehicle and for some reason after asking Naheed Khan and Makhdoom Amin Fahim to exchange seats, sat in the middle. Khalid Shehanshah and Nasir took the rear seat while Safdar Abbasi sat opposite to them. For unknown reasons, the vehicle took a U-turn on the College Road to head back towards the Murree Road instead of plying the route chosen for her return to Islamabad. According to the security plan already finalised, Benazir’s convoy was scheduled to return from the other way — first heading to Raja Bazaar and then taking the alternative route. When asked why Benazir’s vehicle turned right instead of turning left, towards Gawalmandi, in accordance with the actual security plan, Rehman Malik said it was not in his knowledge why Benazir’s vehicle turned right instead of following the original security plan.Rehman Malik said his vehicle was ahead of Benazir’s vehicle and further ahead was a police escort van.Who changed the route and why the vehicle was returned to the Murree Road against the security plan remains a big question mark.It remains unclear who were the people blocking the way of her vehicle. Equally perplexing is the question: where were the security people supposed to keep the passage of Benazir’s entourage clear for safe and speedy exit from the venue? Then she handed over the portable microphone, asked Safdar Abbasi to shout ‘Jeay Bhutto’ and joined in raising the slogans while waving to the crowd. And that was precisely when the gunman pulled the trigger. Three shots were fired at her. One reportedly hit her in the temple and she slumped back on the seat, believed to be dead before she fell. She was in the middle of crying ‘Jeay Bhutto’ when hit by the bullet, a popular slogan that would be registered as her last words. The gunshots were followed by a huge explosion, allegedly a suicide attack. Later, inquiries led many people and investigators to believe the bomb was exploded only to cover up the fact that she was killed by gunshots. According to sources, little attention was paid in the inquiries to ensuring serious effort at identifying the person who pulled out the gun and shot thrice at Benazir from such close range. How he managed to take such a precise aim while there was a huge crowd around the vehicle and one could hardly hold one’s ground, with people pushing and jostling in a mad rush, is mind-boggling.There was hardly any query asked whether the assassin was also killed or he managed to escape. No one knows who ordered the mopping up of the scene. Who were the police high-ups who issued the orders to wash up the crime scene but were never included in the investigations? The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), constituted by the government to probe the incident, hurriedly came out with the conclusion that Benazir had died after her head hit the protruding lever of the roof that broke her skull. The JIT spent all its energies on proving this particular point, which was also announced by the director-general of the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) Brig (retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema at a press conference. But another government agency investigating the assassination later insisted the earlier ‘conclusion’ was not correct as it proved the wound in Benazir’s head was almost 5mm deep and two centimetres in width — deep enough to crack open her brain membrane, as a result of which, part of her brain oozed out of the wound.“All this evidence leads us to believe that she was hit slightly above her temple by a bullet, which ricocheted but did the fatal damage to her skull. The skull on the left side was crushed by the impact of the bullet and the depression was deep enough to damage the protective membrane of the brain. It is a proven fact that such damage needs an impact of at least 50 Newton force. A knock by the protruding sunroof lever could not cause that sort of damage to her skull. So, we have reason to conclude that it was one of the three bullets fired by the assassin that hit Benazir and killed her instantly,” a source privy to the investigations told The News. However, the elements that wanted to hide the facts, instead of paying attention to the report of the country’s own investigation agency, called in the Scotland Yard police which could find nothing new and had to vet the earlier report submitted by the JIT. Surprisingly, nobody raised the basic questions as to who ordered cleaning of the crime scene.By the same token, nobody asked why the original route plan was changed at the eleventh hour and the vehicle carrying Benazir was diverted towards the Murree Road. Also unasked is the query why there was no official security vehicle in front of and behind the jeep carrying her after the rally was over. Now that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is in power, it is intriguing why the government has not made any effort to reinvestigate the case. The government did promise that a UN probe into Benazir’s death would be initiated, but there has since been complete silence on the part of the PPP government, baffling many. This scribe contacted a number of individuals engaged at different levels of investigations into the case, and some of whom are still quietly working on it. They said the case could be resolved “only if there is a sincere will to resolve it and if there is a resolve to catch the culprits behind the most unfortunate assassination in the country’s history,” one of them remarked.“There is enough proof which points towards those who had played a key role in the whole plot that culminated in her assassination. But nobody can dare make any demand to unveil the elements because all these players are holding powerful positions,” they confided.“There is ample evidence available that could lead the investigators to the mastermind behind the plot. The evidence is scattered in bits and pieces but not hidden. What is required is only to collect these scattered pieces of the puzzle and put them together and that would easily complete the picture, exposing all those involved in this conspiracy, not only against a person, but against the nation,” they said. “However, we have to bear in mind that the forces who want to keep the facts under wraps would never allow any such move. The assassination of one of the major players involved in the whole conspiracy in Karachi some time back has effectively sent out a strong warning to others and none would be willing to reveal the facts. At least, not for the time being,” they continued. Today, it is exactly one year that the ‘Daughter of the East’ and the most popular leader of the country was assassinated. Today, the party of the late Benazir is in power. And yet, her assassination remains a mystery! The time to unravel the mystery will, however, come sooner than later and then we will know who killed the only hope the country had.
